The Entertainment Committee, comprised of French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI) board members, former board members, artists, and others, approves all applications. The Committee’s objective is to ensure the best possible selection of performers for French Quarter Festival and Satchmo SummerFest in order to create a diverse and a quality experience for festival-goers. Selection is made at the discretion of the Committee.

The French Quarter Festival 2017 call for artists is officially closed. Below are guidelines for those who wish to submit for future years.

Submission Guidelines
The purpose of this call is to design artwork for the 34th annual French Quarter Festival poster. The final version of the artwork is subject to change, as the FQFI Merchandise Committee reserves the right to request changes to the design. The design must contain one or more the following to qualify:

• French Quarter scene
• New Orleans music related
• New Orleans food related

There is no size limit. However, traditionally a standard vertical design with a single image and central focal point with vibrant festive colors tends to sell better than other variations. (Please refer to past festival posters on page 2.) There is no text required on the artwork, it will be digitally added to the poster and t-shirt set up. When designing the artwork, please keep in mind that the image will be silkscreened onto t-shirts and needs to translate well as both a poster and t-shirt image.

Selected Art and Honorarium
The selected artist will receive media and press coverage before, during, and after the festival. The artist will also be provided with booth space in Jackson Square to sell his or her original artwork, greet fans, and personalize posters for all four days of the festival. FQFI will grant a monetary honorarium to the selected artist along with 25 posters to sell or give away, 10 poster t-shirts, and other selected items at the company’s discretion. The artist will sign and number all festival posters prior to the event. The poster will be displayed at the merchandise booths, in press releases, on the website, in festival materials including, but not limited to, brochures, kiosks, and festival signage.

Judging and Selection of Poster
The selected design will be determined by the FQFI Merchandise Committee. The committee’s decision will be final. No further correspondence shall be entered into. French Quarter Festivals, Inc. reserves the right not to select artwork if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received. FQFI reserves the right to disqualify any entrant or entry at its sole discretion. No correspondence shall be entered into. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design. The selected artist will be required to sign a contract assigning all ownership of the artwork to French Quarter Festivals, Inc. All entries will become the sole property of French Quarter Festivals, Inc. and may be displayed publicly on the FQFI website.

Participation constitutes the entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. By participating in the call, the entrant is representing and warranting that he/she has read, understood, and agrees to be bound by these rules. Including the guides and rules referred to herein, these Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between the entrant and French Quarter Festivals, Inc. in relation to the contest.

Food Vendors

Are you interested in becoming a food vendor at French Quarter Festival or Satchmo SummerFest?


The Jazz Brunch Committee, comprised of French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI) board members, former board members, and others, approves all concessionaire applications. The Committee’s objective is to ensure the best possible selection of concessionaires for French Quarter Festival and Satchmo SummerFest in order to create a diverse menu and a quality culinary experience for festival-goers. Concessionaire selection is made at the discretion of the Committee.

Primary considerations of the Committee to select applicants include, but are not limited to:

*1. Preference is given to vendors who have already participated in the event and are in good standing due to past compliance with food vending requirements. Past festival vendors renewal applications are due each year in early December. After all past vendor applications are processed and if space permits, new vendors may be invited to participate in a tasting before the Jazz Brunch Committee.

*2. Preference for new applicants is given to restaurants located in the French Quarter Neighborhood, New Orleans, then the Greater New Orleans area, then Louisiana. Restaurants located outside the state of Louisiana are not eligible for consideration.

*3. Applicant must be an established, ongoing food service operation with a physical address, open to the public with regular operating hours. Catering companies will not be considered for participation. Applicant must have and be able to present a copy of a current Occupational License issued by the City of New Orleans (or appropriate city agency if restaurant is located outside of Orleans Parish, in which case a Temporary Occupational License from Orleans Parish must be obtained). Applicant must also have a permit to operate from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Applicant should be listed in local and online restaurant guides.

*4. No chain restaurants (more than 3 in existence) will be considered.

*5. New applicants will not be given the option of vending alcoholic beverages at the Event.

*6. Applicant must be able to describe and execute up to three high quality menu items. All menus are subject to approval by the committee. Menu are then reviewed at a tasting before the committee.

*7. Applicant must be able and willing to cooperate with: *Health and sanitary requirements of the State of Louisiana *Mandated insurance requirements of FQFI *Electrical and fire safety requirements and inspections *City and state laws pertaining to food service, licensing, and tax reporting

*8. To be considered for an invitation to vend at French Quarter Festival and Satchmo SummerFest, applicant must first add their restaurant to our wait list for consideration.

Position Description
FQFI produces three major annual events that have a combined economic impact in excess of $185 million, attracting over 750,000 people annually to the city. These include its signature event, the French Quarter Festival (April), the Satchmo SummerFest (August) and Christmas New Orleans Style, (December). The staff plans and implements all events, coordinates publicity and promotions, and generates sponsorships and fundraising resources. The staff also interacts with the French Quarter community, state and local tourism agencies and public officials, and handles the overall administration of the nonprofit entity. This role is sometimes expanded to coordinate or participate in activities on behalf of the city and community.

Reports To: Executive Committee, FQFI Board of Directors
Position Summary: The Executive Director of French Quarter Festivals, Inc. is responsible for the executive management and sound fiscal operation of the corporation in order to fulfill its mission and to execute its programs with the greatest success. The Executive Director serves as the primary representative and spokesperson for the corporation with the community and the media; is the organization’s principal fundraiser identifying and soliciting high-level sponsors, grants and strategic partners; and manages and motivates the FQFI staff and volunteers to achieve their maximum potential. The Executive Director maintains the highest personal and professional integrity, is respected in the community and instills pride in FQFI. The Executive Director is to be an articulate and diplomatic communicator and negotiator.

Key Responsibilities:
Resource Development & Management.

  • Identify, qualify, solicit and secure top level sponsors for FQFI’s events and programs with appropriate benefit and service packages to maintain long-term relationships.
  • Negotiate and maintain FQFI’s strategic partnerships and resource assistance from entities to include but not limited to the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation, New Orleans Inc. (Formally the NOMCVB), the Louisiana Department of Tourism, the French Quarter Business Association and the Vieux Carre Property Owners & Residents Association.
  • Identify and develop grant funding for FQFI programs from foundations, corporations and other sources of philanthropic funding.
  • Participate in ongoing lobbying efforts to protect FQFI’s position, financially and operationally, with regard to city services and regulations, taxes, merchandise programs and other applicable issues.

Community Relations.

  • Maintain a positive, active and visible role for FQFI in the New Orleans community. This shall be accomplished through FQFI marketing initiatives, regular media coverage (local, regional, national, and international), newsletter publications, speaking engagements and active participation in the New Orleans community.
  • Participate and attend events to include but not limited to municipal, chamber of commerce, convention and visitor bureau and appropriate nonprofit functions and programs.
  • Act as FQFI’s representative to the State of Louisiana, The Governor’s Office, Office of the Mayor, the New Orleans City Council and other city, parish and state offices and agencies.
  • Be the principal liaison to French Quarter merchants and businesses.
  • Serve as chief public spokesperson for the corporation, its events and programs.

Executive Oversight

  • Ensure the long-term success, creativity and financial stability of FQFI, its events and programs.
  • Seek ways to both effectively manage or recover costs in operations and work performance.
  • Monitor contracts for services to be provided FQFI and budgets to insure contractual obligations are met and that financial obligations are not exceeded.
  • Attempt to renegotiate and solicit requests for proposals from vendors to maximize cost savings where possible.
  • Develop, manage, and meet an annual operating plan and budget as approved by the Board.
  • Monitor payroll and scheduling of staff to reduce the usage of overtime pay.
  • Furnish monthly and annual reports (financial and operational) to the Board, assess the Corporation’s current and long term positions, identify new programs, actions, and potential areas of concern for consideration.
  • Provide oversight of accounting and financial systems to ensure integrity of systems and completion of the year within budget.
  • Comply fully with corporate audits.
  • Advise and consult with the Board president and the Executive Committee on matters relating to on-going operations of the organization.
  • Work with the Board president to prepare the agenda for the Executive Committee and regular board meetings. Attend all Board and committee meetings.
  • Initiate and direct the development of policies for board approval and supervise the implementation of all Board policies.
  • Provide the Board with adequate information to help it reach sound decisions and establish policies.
  • Play the role of “architect” to the Board in the formulation, interpretation, communication and implementation of FQFI’s vision and long-range objectives, policies and principles. With the Executive Board, direct long-range strategic planning.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Board.

Leadership & Management of Staff, Board Volunteers and Community.

  • Provide positive motivation and encouragement to the staff through hands-on involvement, advocacy, skills development, encouragement, discipline and excellent interpersonal communications skills.
  • Direct staff members in their assignments and duties.
  • Supervise the hiring, supervision, and performance reviews of the FQFI staff, including creating and updating (as necessary) employee policies and procedures manual(s), employment forms, job descriptions and responsibilities, etc.
  • Create, manage and motivate the volunteer committees responsible for maximizing the success of FQFI events and programs.
  • Support and encourage the 1,000+ volunteers that annually provide their time, energy and expertise to the successful operation of FQFI events.

Festival Management.

  • Provide executive oversight to the FQFI staff to produce high quality events that accomplish FQFI’s mission.
  • Supervise overall festival creative direction, ensuring high-quality programming through staff management, successful negotiations, budget management and maintaining an up-to-date awareness of industry trends and entertainment.
  • Create new events, programs and festivals (as approved by the Board).
